About this deal

Quote from: Joebuck on November 25, 2020, 10:12 AM I had the same problem when I first used my TSO GRS-16.

Perfectly straight cuts are made easy with virtually no set up time and a chip free finish is achieved with a sacrificial splinterguard that is attached to the rail. It would be great to do a comparison of these squares, but it’s not something that’s in my budget… maybe Fine Woodworking Magazine will take up the cause. The thing that the Festool/TSO has going for it is the TSO parallel guide/length stop system, it looks really handy but gets a bit spendy. The GRS-16 is self-aligning, simply slide it into the T-slot on the underside of you track and then close the latch. Once fitted this guide rail square allows you to set your guide rail at a perfect 90°, in an instant, every time. I tried mine for breaking down sheets and for long cuts with two Makita rails, when I compared to a known square and my measured pencil marks it was close, but out sufficiently that I always had to fiddle it around.

That is saying that The Dacia Sandero does the same job as the Rolls-Royce Phantom apart from almost everything.

Long story short; where possible get someone with a panel saw or beam saw that costs more than your car to do it for you. It uses a cam lock system to press the Empire square to the guide rail t-track, achieving a true 90 degree. Attach with 2 bolts 1/4-20ish oversize the hole at the end of the tongue since its almost impossible to find a perfectly square framing square for reasonable amount of money. Without these technologies, things like personalised recommendations, your account preferences, or localisation may not work correctly.

Firstly have you checked with a machinist square that the square clamps square to the rail back edge? Please note: due to the process of making our rail square lighter we have made the square thinner which with the restrictions of fittings the nyloc nuts protrude 2mm not allowing the square to sit flat on a surface, this is generally not a problem as the square will hang off the side of the workpiece. Well engineered and thought out, fast and easy to set up, never had an out of square cut yet, speeds up production time immensely.Any panels wider than the 260MM I would probably have to use the parallel guide and then use the rail square to square the ends up. The Bosch portable table saw I have is good for some things, but breaking down sheet goods is not one of them, and accuracy… well it’s not exactly always to the level I need it to be. I also wanted a hybrid square because I use two different brand saws rails however there wasn’t any in the market. Peter also did a video just a few days ago about making your own to see if it's something to really need.

To reduce the risk of serious injury and/or damage to your Festool product, always read, understand and follow all warnings and instructions in your Festool product's Instruction Manual. I’ve never had an issue cutting sheet goods this way but very accurate and true “parallel“ cuts may well be better done with a parallel guide made for the purpose. Our guide rail square adapter uses the accuracy of an Empire square and the guide rail to achieve accurate 90 degree and 45 degree alignment. I normally do the long rips just by measuring, or make up a couple of quick guide blocks if I am doing repeat cuts. We provide an optional support tab which will let the guide rail square and guide rail sit flush onto the workpiece. The phantom will get you there in style and comfort and will be a better ride, but you still went to the same place. It is essentially a big speed square which clips on to the rail with the same kind of draw latch used by the commercial rail squares. Another thing to check with the saw is the bevel angle, it must be 90degrees and definitely isn't out of the box from factory. Not a chance that ANY of the rail squares will do this job accurately except by chance, even if perfectly made.
