About this deal

With Joe now promoted, Vera and her new sergeant, DS Aiden Healy, investigate a fatal explosion at a caravan park that killed Deena Viner, sister of the park's owner, Jim. The mystery deepens when Vera and Aiden discover that Deena died in the caravan before it blew up. D.C.I. Vera Stanhope (Brenda Blethyn) and D.S. Joe Ashworth (David Leon) examine the suspicious murder of David Kenworthy found dead on the beach at Whitley Bay. I have to say that Vera Stanhope remains an intriguing character. The character is very good at drawing people out and digging in, but one wonders is it because she's a good DI or is it because she's just nosy. We have Vera realizing she needs to be better with her team. Not only because she does care about them (though she hate to admit it) but she realizes her behavior is going to drive them away. The Harbour Street investigation also has ties to her childhood and her father Hector and his birdwatching and egg stealing.

The bulk of the filming for this episode took place in Alnmouth, which stood in for the fictional village of Mardle. The beach was given a makeover, gaining a jetty and some fisherman's sheds.Local arcade owner, Larry Crowe (Dave Hill) has a direct link to the family. His son Paddy died in a botched robbery at the Kenworthy home forty years ago. A witness saw him arguing with David on the night of the killing and a search of his property uncovers a bloodied baseball bat. But Larry has a watertight alibi and it’s clear he wasn’t the only person David met that night. This is a novel where the setting IS one of the leading characters and even though the Mardle of the novel is fictional, it is no less threatening and gloomy –

Following Vera's footsteps across the North East also takes us to the Northumberland coast, including Craster, Seahouses and Rumbling Kern. Very seemed more cheerful in this, as if she's lightening up. I think losing Joe will be very sad for her, as she seems fond of his family as well. Brenda Blethyn is wonderful as Vera, with her sly smile, her way of questioning a suspect, and the stories she tells. Clare Calbraith ( Rebecca Shepherd) & Paul Copley ( Malcolm Kenrich) also worked together on Downton Abbey (2010) as Jane Moorsum & Mr. Mason respectively.Vera season 12: Release date, cast and latest news". The scenes on the train and on the station platform were filmed on the Weardale Railway in County Durham. The platform was Stanhope Station suitably altered to look like a busy commuter station. Joe and his little girl Jessie are on a train when Jessie notices that another passenger, elderly Margaret Kraszewski, has been killed with a single stab wound. Vera visits the coastal town of Mardle, where Margaret lodged with singer Kate Darrow, her two children and boyfriend Stuart. They all praise Margaret as an almost saintly woman and are amazed that anybody would want to kill her. Margaret volunteered at a women's hostel and when Dee, an alcoholic prostitute who lived there, is also found dead Vera suspects a connection, especially as Margaret wanted to report something to the police just before she died. Pub landlady Valerie Furlow tells Vera that Margaret and Dee were good friends who once lived together in the same house on Harbour Street. She believes that Margaret's Polish husband was violent to her and, as he disappeared suddenly thirty years ago, Vera wonders if he was murdered. The chief beneficiary from Margaret's will proves to be Dee and Vera learns that years ago Dee was a rape victim whom certain people set out to avenge. Now another rape victim provides a clue to Margaret's killer. — don @ minifie-1 A Vera Tour even launched to take fans around the drama's standout locations. Where is Vera filmed? Series 12 locationsConvinced the answer lies within the family, Vera begins to dig into the Kenworthy past. Much to the frustration of David’s father, it’s not long before Vera discovers the long shadow Alan Kenworthy (John Woodvine) casts over his children’s lives. Daughter Lorna (Teresa Banham) has been estranged from the family for many years and elder son Thomas (Michael Hodgson) is missing, his car keys found abandoned on the coastal path. You should pay attention to women of a certain age wearing brown anoraks, tweed skirt, with a Geordie accent…..mind how you go, pet. The second episode of series 12 is called For the Grace of God and sees the action switch to Newcastle, as a decorated soldier finds himself sleeping rough on the streets of the city centre, with the area in and around the Quayside seen in teaser shots for the episode, which will air on ITV1 on Sunday, February 5. Other locations in the episode includes the Staithes estate in Dunston and Newcastle's famous Lit and Phil library.

Seventy-year-old Margaret Krukowski is murdered on the Metro, shortly before the Christmas holiday. Detective Joe Ashworth and his daughter Jessie are on their way home in the same Metro car when the murder occurs. Detective Inspector Vera Stanhope welcomes the murder investigation since she’s not at all looking forward to the Christmas festivities. But when town prostitute Dee is also murdered, Dee’s ties to Harbour Street tells Vera that there’s much more going on than meets the eye. Will feisty Vera get the townspeople to reveal what they know about the murdered women? Weekly Top 10 Programmes: ITV HD w/e 15 May 2011". Broadcasters' Audience Research Board . Retrieved 2 July 2011. I was very happy to read about the Lit and Phil and seeing it get such a nice mention in the novel – where books are cherished and where one of the characters goes to read. But when the train is stopped due to the bad weather, and the other passengers fade into the swirling snow, Jessie notices that an old lady hasn't left the train: Margaret Krukowski has been fatally stabbed as she sat on the crowded train. Nobody, including the policeman himself, sees the stabbing take place. Margaret's murderer is seemingly invisible; her killing motiveless. Why would anyone want to harm this reserved, elegant lady? The investigation becomes a complicated affair with local people who have lived there a long time and who withhold information as they try to protect the dead. Vera in her usual manner is relentless in her pursuit of the murderer and she keeps her team working hard to solve the crime. Brenda Blethyn and co-star Kenny Doughty being protected from the elements on Tynemouth beach (Image: Owen Humphreys/PA Media) Although Vera is certainly the central character, this is an ensemble cast with each member of her team being significant. It is also nice to learn about the other members of her team, as well as about Vera growing up. All of it combines to provide dimension to the characters. But Cleeves also gives one insight into the other characters, as well. It is nice when a case is solved by footwork, and by following the clues.
